Chittum Care and Maintenance Guidelines
Boat
Clean all surfaces with a mild boat soap. Wash thoroughly, rinse well, and dry all surfaces afterward.
Remove cushions when storing the boat. Trapped moisture beneath cushions can damage deck surfaces.
Leave hatches open while the boat is not in use to promote airflow and prevent moisture buildup.
Do not use concentrated bleach in the bilge, or anywhere.
Keep all gutters and drains clean and free of debris to prevent water from overflowing and causing leaks.
Inspect the hull anode monthly and replace it when approximately 50% depleted.
Lubricate removable push pole holders regularly with a light lubricant to prevent sticking in the socket.
Do not use harsh chemicals or cleaners on upholstery (e.g., acetone, lacquer thinner, etc.). Use mild soap only.
When refueling, use only the forward-most deck fuel fill (with the flip-up tab). The rear deck fitting is for the fuel stick only. Filling from the rear fitting may damage the fuel system and cause engine performance issues.
Keep the trolling motor breaker turned off except when actively using the trolling motor.
Maintain batteries by keeping chargers plugged in when not in use, or by plugging them in at least once per month to keep them fully charged.
Wash and dry all metal components after each use to prevent corrosion.
Engine
Flush the engine after every use.
Complete engine service according to the manufacturer's recommended intervals — typically the first service at 20 hours, then every 100 hours or once per year, whichever comes first. Service can be performed by a local dealer or at Chittum.
Use a trailering support device (e.g., Transom Saver, MotorMate, etc.) when trailering the boat. Do not rely on onboard engine brackets, as they are not designed for trailering support.
Inspect engine anodes monthly and replace them when approximately 50% depleted.
To maintain smooth throttle response, lubricate the throttle linkage and cable mechanism under the motor cowling with CRC 6-56 marine lubricant.
