“Son, go back and build it!”

- Captain Billy Knowles

History

Chittum Skiffs was born from a vision to revolutionize the flats skiff market. Founded by guide and boat builder Hal Chittum, our journey began in 1996 with the creation of Hell’s Bay Boatworks. Hal and Chris Morejohn’s first prototype skiff, displayed in a small swimming pool, demonstrated the lightweight and minimal draft capabilities that would forever change the industry. Despite initial skepticism, Hell’s Bay became a benchmark for high-tech, shallow water fishing machines. After selling Hell’s Bay in 2002, Hal was driven to create something even better. Thus, Chittum Skiffs emerged with a mission to build state-of-the-art flats skiffs using the latest high-tech composite materials and innovative designs.

INNOVATION

At Chittum Skiffs, innovation is at the heart of everything we do. Our design process is exhaustive and meticulous, involving cutting-edge technology and continuous testing. The initial hull design took four months, followed by over eleven months of rigorous testing and modifications. We built a temporary hull mold, chopped, cut, added, removed, and re-rigged until every issue was resolved. This dedication resulted in our revolutionary, patented hull design that combines advanced composite materials, the latest hull testing technology, and sophisticated boat-building software. The outcome is a skiff that runs drier, poles easier, spins like a pinwheel, and operates quieter than anything that came before it.

Craftsmanship

Our skiffs are a testament to unparalleled craftsmanship and knowledge of marine engineering. Each boat is meticulously crafted with the finest materials and cutting-edge techniques, ensuring no expense is spared. The lightest and most durable construction ensures optimal performance and longevity. We pride ourselves on the attention to detail and the precision of our work. Every skiff undergoes rigorous quality checks to ensure it meets our high standards. From the sleek design to the functional features, a Chittum skiff is where art meets function.
