Chittum x The Ships Chandler: Event Recap
We recently teamed up with The Ships Chandler to host an exciting event that gave anglers in the Northern Gulf a firsthand look at what makes Chittums the gold standard in flats skiffs. The event drew a fantastic crowd, most of whom had never experienced a Chittum before—but by the end of the day, they were hooked.
Energy and Excitement:
“We had a ton of excitement,” said Peter Wright Jr. from The Ships Chandler. “Most of our attendees had never been on a Chittum before but were anxious to do so. Everyone was more than just pleasantly surprised; it exceeded their expectations.”
Common Questions from Anglers:
When asked about the most common questions from guests, Peter shared, “'What can a Chittum do that my current boat cannot?' was the main question they wanted answered. Performance, draft, polability, ride, and dryness were what everyone was looking for. If you can hit on 3 out of 5 of those compared to their boat, that’s great. If you can hit 5 out of 5, that’s exceptional.”
Great Demonstration Conditions
While the weather conditions weren’t ideal, they became a highlight of the event. “The weather that day was not pretty, but it’s what you want for a sea trial day,” Peter explained. “Temps were in the 50s, wind blowing 15-20 knots out of the north, and we were on the bay's south side with nowhere to hide. While we were concerned about the conditions, the people who attended loved that it was that way. Even the people who were iffy about jumping on a Chittum in those conditions were in shock when they returned to the dock. Running 65+ mph on a 21R in a 2 ft bay chop and being comfortable and dry doing so is something no one had experienced before. When a customer has a hard time explaining how good something was, that’s a good thing. It’s hard to explain something they’ve never experienced before.”
Expanding Opportunities in the Northern Gulf:
Peter emphasized how this partnership opens new doors for local anglers: “Chittum has been a staple in South Florida for years. Being factory-direct, you had to make the drive to see them. Having a selection of Chittums at our location for customers to put their hands on, look at different models, etc., is great. People are all about service as well. We set the standard for true customer service, and providing the Northern Gulf with that is a difference-maker for someone that buys a Chittum.”

Peter summed it up perfectly: “You gotta come see them, put your hands on them, run them, pole them, etc., to really appreciate the work that goes into building these skiffs.”
